Long-term ecological research (LTER) provides useful information to understand the complex dynamics of natural systems. This is specially relevant in mountain regions, such Sierra Nevada mountain range that shows strong gradients of environemntal conditions at small spatial scales. In the Sierra Nevada LTER-site a long term monitoring program was established to assess the impacts of global change on the ecosystems of this mountain area. In this work, we show some of the results of the long term monitoring revealing impacts of the global change drivers (land use change and climate) on the biotic and socioeconomic component of the ecosystems of Sierra Nevada.
